I’m not usually one for requests, especially requests that involve me shutting up; even for a day. Nevertheless, when Noel Curry of Dialogue Free Comics Day emailed me about this year’s event, I had to say something about it. Oh, the irony.
It’s an annual event where webcomic writers and artists embrace the visual side of the medium for a day. I don’t agree with Noel’s premise that comics are primarily a visual medium as I’m firmly of the school that comics are best enjoyed both visually and through dialogue. Nevertheless, the event is a challenge and I approve wholeheartedly of challenges.
So, if you post on or before Friday 13 May, consider giving Dialogue Free Comics Day a try. All you need to do is produce a comic with no dialogue. Can’t be that hard, can it? (Yes!)
